Once in a while, in a country like Philippines where basketball is king, in a small City of Iloilo, a group of young doctors take off their white gowns and stethoscopes to do a thing they love most- play a friendly match of football. While Medicine is a passion and profession, football is a "true love" for most of them. They have the skills and drive and would have played for the Maldita's (Women's Philippine Team).
For such busy and stressed doctors, a fun game of football is a great escape from the bleakness of hospitals and problematic patients. Thus, leads to a better, happier, healthier and longer life. The exercise promotes better sleep, helps combat diseases and boost immunity. It also is an avenue to see old friends and meet new ones. The game teaches sportsmanship and teamwork which are helpful for dealing with colleagues and patients during difficult situations. The regular physical activity builds up stamina of body, mind and concentration and also helps doctors become aware of other people in our daily interactions with them.
That is why, for the longest time, the West Visayas State University - College of Medicine holds a regular football game. Long before the Azkals were famous, the Doctor Footboleras ruled.
